This design won Barrie the National Student Garden Design Competition at the Southport Flower Show 2011, also sponsored by the Society of Garden Designers, and he was given £7000 to construct the show garden.
The theme that year was 'Vintage' and Barrie's design surprised many visitors to the show. Visitors didn't expect a contemporary design in a vintage themed show.
Taking inspiration from Alfred Hitchcocks film 'The Birds', Brutalistic architecture from the mid 20th century, Mary Quant, the Beatles, herbal explorations and even 70's wood panelled walls. The garden was many peoples favourite and was complimented on its geometric design, subtle and textured planting and boldness.
